Blog Journal #1

My name is Matthew. I was born in Florida. I am a studious student who is majoring in Creative Writing. I like to write stories in my free time and also play video games. My favorite movie is Godzilla: King of the Monsters, my favorite TV show is the Mandalorian, and my favorite video game is Kirby Planet Robobot. 

I've used technology before in an educational setting before. In high school, I was given a Chromebook that I took care of four years, where I would do all my academic work on. In college, I have used my tablet to access certain online textbooks. I used my laptop for any assignments that need to be turned in. 

There are several things that I would consider personal learning networks, where I have learned or gained experience in that helped me grow both educationally, and as a person. Some of my teachers helped me learn important aspects about writing, and helped me mold my ambitions of pursuing a career involving writing. My parents are also a PLN, as they taught me on how to interact with other, and they helped me, whether intentionally or unintentionally, build and develop my character into who I am today. Google is an important tool for me to use as well, as it helps me find tips and understand certain writing principles to help develops my skills better.

    Hi Matthew! I too am a fan of the Mandalorian (not a super fan) and can appreciate your love of Video Games. My parents are also a huge part of my Personal Learning Network and they've been my support system through pretty much everything. Chromebook on the other hand are the bane of my existence, though they are very user-friendly, I shall perish before ever owning one - with all due respect lol

During the few times when I used Microsoft Word, I had a bit of a rough time at first, but then, it was better for me later on. When I used Microsoft Word when I was in elementary school, I didn't like having to manually save my document every time I edited it. I hadn't use it or even tried to use it ever since until back in high school, where I tried to access documents that were stuck in Microsoft Word, but I was unable to do anything because I didn't have a Microsoft account nor paid for the subscription. It wasn't until I was in college when the school gave it to me as part of having a Microsoft account and had to use it for certain classes and assignments when I finally got the hang of using Word. That being said, I still prefer to use Google Docs. I prefer this over Word because it's much more accessible. I don't have to worry about manually saving things to my computer, I don't have to pay for it, and it comes automatically when making a Google accoun...

Blog Journal #9

 I have both good and poor experiences with EME2040. I liked how this class introduced me to different tools and sites that I previously had no clue that they existed. I didn't like how this class used things from Microsoft at times, as they always seemed to give me trouble for no good reason, and I don't like how this class is structured in a way as if it is expecting me to be a teacher in my future career. When I do become a teacher (I won't), I would improve the experience of my students by having the course be considerate to those that don't have a specific career in mind for their future.  Open educational resources are learning resources that are normally online, which anyone can access and use through numerous ways. One example of this is OER Commons. This site allows people to view, create, and even share OERs amongst others in groups. When I began using social media for Personal Learning Networks, I had started with Instagram. On Instagram, I interacted with #teachertalk, leaving a comment on one of their posts. I found it beneficial as it gives great advice of keeping calm and choosing which battles to fight with students, showing the importance of having responsibility and maturity when teaching students. If was were to use either Instagram or Twitter in the future, it would most likely to be advertise and completed written works of mine.  Digital divide affects student success in school as they tend to have lower academic performances and they tend to have less access to information to further their studies.
